Over the next three decades, the cost of flood damage is on pace to rise 26 due to climate change alone, an analysis of our new flood risk maps shows. As many as 10,000 have been reported missing and there is a rising death toll, with initial estimates at over 5,000 across the country. We publish the maps to meet the requirements of the flood risk regulations. Each category of flood likelihood is shown as a different shade of colour on the Flood Awareness Map. Flood likelihood is broken down into four categories: high, medium, low and very low. FFW (Convective Flash Flood Warning) FFS (Convective Flash Flood Statement) FLW (Areal Flood Warning) FLS (Areal Flood Advisory or Areal Flood Statement) SPS (Special Weather Statement) NWS Zone and county maps and listings are available from the Management Information Retrieval System and the GIS Database. Flash floods resulted in widespread damage, especially in Derna, where the collapse of 2 dams and other infrastructure reportedly washed away entire neighborhoods and displaced thousands. The Flood Awareness Map uses the term likelihood to describe the possibility of flooding from rivers, creeks and storm tides happening annually. The storm resulted in a city-wide power outage in Al Bayda and disrupted the telecommunications network. In Derna, rainfall exceeded 100mm in just just 3 days, where the average monthly rainfall in the whole of September is under 1.5mm. The three maps show a range of flood scenarios to help New Yorkers understand how stormwater flood patterns may change over time. The word 'areal' refers to an area, which is an expanse of space or region of land. On September 11th, Storm Daniel struck northeastern Libya, causing extensive damage along the coast, particularly in Derna and Al Bayda cities. The word 'areal' is the adjective version of the noun 'area'.
